Purpose of Data Processing and Possible Consequences of Failure to Provide Personal Data
Personal data are processed in order to carry out and confirm your registration for the African Data Protection Laws: Regulation, Practice, and Policy Conference, taking place at the University of Ghana in Accra on the 13th to 16th September 2022 and to organize and conduct the conference, including any direct related follow-up work.
Data marked as mandatory are required for the conferment and in order to participate in the it.
Legal Basis
Data are processed for carrying out and confirming the registration and for organizing and conducting the conference, including directly related follow-up work.
Art. 6 paragraph 1 (a) and (e) in conjunction with Art. 6 paragraph 3 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in conjunction with Section 4 of the Data Protection Act of Bavarian (BayDSG), and S. 20 (1) DPA.
Recipients
Provided that you give consent, members of the University of Passau and the University of Ghana are responsible for the processing the personal data necessary for the organization of the Conference.
Furthermore, legal regulations regarding archiving must be observed and documents must be given to the university archive before erasure. The university archive decides whether documents are transferred to the archive or not.
Transfer of Data to a Third Country
As the conference takes place in Ghana, transfer of your personal data to Ghana is necessary in order to carry out and confirm your registration for the event and to organize and conduct the event, including any direct related follow-up work.
Statement on the Level of Protection
Ghana has not yet received an EU Commission resolution regarding Article 45 (3) of the European Data Protection Law. This means, the adequacy level of data protection in Ghana has not been determined to meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Currently, there are no alternative warranties between the University of Passau and the University of Ghana as required under Article 46 (1) of the General Data Protection Regulation for the transfer of personal data to a third country.
Duration of Storage
As a rule, data are deleted when the event is concluded and any direct related follow-up work has been completed (approximately one to two months after the last day of the event), latest by November 16th 2022.
Documents may be transferred to respective universities archive and are usually stored indefinitely.
Your Rights
You have rights according to Art. 15 et seq. GDPR and Sections 27 (2),32, 34 and 35 et seq. DPA respectively, depending on which law is applicable to you.
In particular, you have the following rights:
Right of access to the personal data concerned (Art. 15 GDPR); (Sections 27 (2),32, 34 and 35 DPA);
Right to correction (Art. 16 GDPR); (S. 33 (1) (a) of the DPA);
Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR); (S. 33 (1) (b) of the DPA);
Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR); (S. 39 of the DPA);
Right to object to processing if the data processing is based on Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR);
Right to object the processing of personal data including for direct market purposes (Ss. 20 (2) (3) and 40 DPA)
Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR);
Right to withdraw consent given at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until the withdrawal, if the data processing is based on consent pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) or Article 9(2)(a) (Art: 7 (3) GDPR).
