Frau Prof. Dr. Kateryna Nekit hält am 06. Juni 2023 um 18:00 Uhr einen Vortrag im (JUR) SR 147a zum Thema "Information and digital data as subjects to property rights: Ukrainian experience and current European discussions".
Abstract:
The development of information technologies causes modifications in approaches to understanding the concept of information. In Ukraine, the discussion on the need to qualify information as subject to property rights has been lasting for several decades. The attempt to cover information by property rights provisions made on the legislative level in 1992 didn’t succeed. However, new realities give reasons for further discussions arising around a new concept – digital data, which tends to be treated as property. In 2022, a new Law “On virtual assets” was adopted in Ukraine, where virtual assets are defined as data in electronic form. According to the law, such data is an object of the right of ownership. Consequently, the talk aims to clarify how information and digital data are correlated and which legal provisions should be applied in each case.
